This week we’ve got Brooklyn’s own Pharmakon, an intense industrial powerelectronics project from 22-year old 5*8 Johnson resident and former Red Light District resident Margaret Chardiet. Do you like listening to music that sounds like really huge machines grinding you to a bloody pulp while demons scream in your face? If you answered yes, then get into this. After a few years of amazing live shows and a handful of extremely limited tape and CDR releases, her awesome debut LP recorded by Sean Ragon of Cult of Youth/Heaven Street Record Shop/Blind Prophet Records is about to drop on Sacred Bones Records. Heavy, heavy stuff.
This week we have a live session and interview with CONTAINERof Providence RI. CONTAINER is one of the coolest and most intense acts making techno right now, or “weird techno” as he may describe it to all us noobs, or maybe even “post-techno.” CONTAINER makes a chaotic wall of disgusting sonic layers all built over a techno beat, and it is a unique and intense listening experience. We recorded this session on Easter Sunday on a day off from a two week Northeast/Canadian/Midwest tour with Brooklyn’s ITAL, and before leaving for another three week European tour right after that. Check out his new Treatment EP on Morphine Records, a follow-up to his incredible second self-titled LP on Spectrum Spools. For true freaks, not to be missed.
This week we are joined by from Brooklyn’s Herzog Rising. Featuring members of Divorce Money among other Brooklyn acts, Herzog Rising blast through a dissonant, loud, chaotic live set. Rene’s howling vocals are a perfect match to the pummeling wall of sound put forth by the rest of the band. After one of the songs I asked him what the lyrics were, to which he replied “oh I was just yelling.” The closest band I can compare this to is Clockcleaner. Their new LP (recorded by Ben of Pygmy Shrews, The Men, Hubble, etc.) is due out very soon. Check them out live this Thursday at 538 Johnson Ave in Brooklyn with NASDAQ Werewolf, Worshit (Russia), Nuclear Spring, Shoxx, and a special guest. http://herzogrising.bandcamp.com/ http://herzogrising.tumblr.com/
